About Us

Through his consulting, speaking, research, writing and training services, Jim Karrh, Ph.D. helps client organizations attract, retain and serve customers profitably through better marketing and messaging. Karrh & Associates is a network of experts that can be engaged and scaled in a customized way, depending upon the structure and culture of your organization as well as the specific challenges and timeframe you face.

Dr. Karrh also serves as Director of MarketSearch, the research division of Mangan Holcomb Partners (www.manganholcomb.com), and as a Consulting Principal with DSG (www.dsgconsulting.com), experts in strategy implementation and sales enablement.

Jim’s clients have included startups, nonprofits, fast-growing Inc. 5000 companies and global Fortune 500 firms—in industry verticals as diverse as software, medical technology, higher education, consumer packaged goods, licensing and durable goods. Despite their differences, these clients shared several common needs: better customer focus and understanding; coordination among teams in sales, marketing, product development and customer service; and more concise, consistent messages in the marketplace.

Jim’s experience includes four years as the chief marketing officer of Mountain Valley Spring Company. Helping transform a small 133-year-old bottled-water producer into a true challenger brand, Jim led a new integrated marketing and public relations program that in just two years was named best in a $20 billion global industry by the International Bottled Water Association.

A teacher at heart, Dr. Karrh served as a full-time university faculty member for eight years (achieving tenure) and still often provides guest lectures and executive education. He has received awards for research and public service from the Marketing Science Institute, the Institute for Interactive & Direct Marketing and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock’s College of Business. His research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Applied Social Psychology, Journal of Advertising and the Journal of Marketing for Higher Education.

Jim earned the Ph.D. in mass communication and a B.S. degree in finance from the University of Florida. He also earned an M.B.A. from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, where he was elected Class Speaker by his classmates and named a Fuqua Scholar by the School’s Curriculum Committee.
